Market Adventures by Kel Langson

I’ve just embarked on a new chapter that feels like a great blend of passion, purpose, and sun-kissed adventure. I have recently moved to the Gold Coast to manage the Op shops which is already proving to be so fulfilling in many ways.

I always been drawn to opshopping and places I can find special trinkets.

Even before moving here, I have really been looking forward to exploring all of the different markets. I heard so many great things about The Carra Markets, The Friday night Surfer’s Paradise markets and from what I’ve gathered, form friends, they’re a bit of an institution on the Gold Coast.

Not only do you get the chance to hunt for vintage treasures, I also enjoy the vibrant atmosphere, the smell of tasty cafe breakies and the sense of community.

I had the best time at the Carrara, there were so many different kinds of stalls to discover. I stumbled across lovely handmade candles. I was really excited to find beautiful Green Jade jewellery for sale and just had to buy a ring to add to my collection. I also had lovely chats with a few friendly vendors. The experience really filled my heart.

The Friday night market in Surfer’s Paradise was such standout experience. The variety of different crafters on show was brilliant. One unforgettable vendor was selling stunning, handblown perfume bottles accompanied with your choice of perfume oil. I was in awe because I have been looking for something like this for ages.

Unfortunately, he didn’t have the perfume scent I was after but I found out he has a shop in Mt Tambourine and now I am even more excited to visit all the shops on the main strip there.

There's something so relaxing about a slow evening pace, the colourful lights, and the simple joy of exploring that feels magical. Whether you’re shopping, or grabbing a bite, or just soaking in the sights, The Friday night market offered the perfect way to unwind and kick off the weekend.

I also discovered a hidden gem of an Asian supermarket at the grocery shops right by my place.
The moment I stepped inside, I was immediately greeted by the familiar, savoury snacks, sweet treats and comforting fragrant spice blends. The aisles were lined with all of my favourite ingredients. I was so happy wondering through, I had to pick up a few items - things that will become the cozy dishes I love to make. It’s amazing to have a place like this so conveniently located.

The more I look the more connected I feel to my new home.

Life’s good, and I can’t wait to see what each new week will bring me.
